Today has been the launch for the Applied Professional Practice module, run by Adelina Court. It will be a twelve weeks module, and it will end on the 8th of January 2021. This introductory session helped us to understand the aim of the module: becoming better designer and practitioners. It will enhance our technical abilities as designers, and it will help us improve our digital skills to promote ourselves for future employments.

Firstly, Adelina gave us a quick overview of the module itself and the "scheme of work" (picture below) we would refer to, which consists of three sections: Style and Identity, Skill sessions and Refine. The first section will be running up to week six, and it will involve developing further the work started in Level 5.

Throughout these six weeks, we will engage in multiple activities such as attending online lectures, tutorials, and assisting online interviews with professionals.

The second block will involve attending some online masterclasses to help us with our technical skills such as Photoshop and InDesign.

Lastly, during week eleven and twelve, we will refine and revise all the work done.

Then, Adelina started to talk us through some of the requirements for the module. In the first weeks, we will develop our Portfolio (from where we left it last year), and we will need to post contents on the blog on a weekly basis. Also, come up with a design Manifesto (that will convey our style and aspirations)(picture of the timetable below), design our Logo and design our Visit Card.

To help us understand what a Manifesto should include, Adelina showed us a PowerPoint sheet (2nd picture below) with a series of questions design related. However, this sheet wasn't complete: three questions were missing! She then divided us into small groups and challenged us to fill up the gaps and share our findings. My group and I came up with three different solutions:

What are my weaknesses? Which country do I see myself working? What Film Genre would I prefer to work in?

This Powerpoint sheet is going to help us after the Manifesto dedicated session on week three.

Finally, Adelina concluded the session with the Submission Checklist:
