shell cottage

This project involved designing and building a realistic model of a set in which I had to decide the theme. What I came up with was a cottage on a beach, inspired by Harry Potter. To start with I came up with some sketches and thumbnails about what I wanted to achieve. My idea was to create a wonky and unstable cottage that seemed to be built out of sand and shells. To visualise better my idea I built a scaled model out of cardboard which I then translated into wood.

To do so, I had to cut very precisely some pieces of wood and assembled the walls.  to create the floor I used wooden sticks and painted them. The same process I used for the lower parts of the walls. The staircase and fireplace were built out of tiny cardboard boxes covered with glue and journal paper and then completely coved by sand. Doors and Windows were made out of cardboard whilst the veranda was made out of wooden sticks. To complete the work I added sand all over the walls and exteriors and placed shells all around.

Finally, I took pictures of the model using a professional camera in order to capture the essence of the cottage.
