"Ballad of Isosceles" insights: Gallery

At university my classmates and I were in charge of designing and building pods for a live performance that was taking place in our university Foyer. Inside each of the six pods we design, one spectator at time could watch a virtual performance of the play "The ballad of Isosceles" wearing a VR headset. The play itself developed around the character of Isosceles, the muse of Envy. She is the love child of Zeus and Marlene Dietrich and the whole story involved the themes of Greek Mythology, Envy, Marlene Dietrich, Love triangles, Voyeurism and Blue Velvet.

Being the play extremely disturbing, I decided to create a fairly disturbing environment (with my partner). Our idea involved the design of a closet (inspired by Blue Velvet,1969). Inside, thanks to the use of UV light we played with the concept of Greek mythology and we designed creepy masks that surrounded the spectator. The final effect was very evocative and disturbing. The audience really appreciated our efforts and gave us amazing feedback.

The first picture (above) represents technical drawings of the closet. The measurements had to be as accurate as possible because they were the guide to cut the wooden panels and build the pod. Following, the design of the masks we used inside our pod.

Then, the painting and building process followed by the final result.
