For this task I was asked to review a company I would like to work for. This simple requirement made me think and think about what I could possibly choose. The options were so many so I had to think about where my interests stand at the moment. Lately I have been asking myself where I see my career going in the short term future. In the past year, I noticed that I have been more and more attracted to the world of CGI. I am extremely intrigued by the infinite possibilities of creating something out of nowhere. CGI allows you to explore a infinite varieties of worlds and where your only limit is your imagination. I remember as a kid watching the Harry Potter saga and being completely amazed by the fantastic effects and magical world CGI could create. This is why I decided to talk about a company I know works with this techniques: Lime Pictures (Liverpool). This British production company. based in Liverpool, was founded by producer and writer Phil Redmond in the early 1980s. This company throughout the years has won many awards. I happen to know this company because on the "Design in Practice" module I had the chance to listen to some of the experiences of Julian Perkins (Head production designer at Lime Pictures) and Simon (in the CGI department at Lime Pictures). This meeting allowed me to get to know better what the company was all about (Their main running show and most know show is called Hollyoaks). First of all, Julian gave us some insights of what it means being a production designer for their company and he showed us some of his works, thumbnails, models and visuals. His works were phenomenal, the attention to details was astonishing and all of them were somehow capturing specific atmospheres. It was then Simon's turn to give us some insights of his work and as he was speaking I was taking notes on everything. Working in the CGI department means to be able to deal with using different kind of software. For instance, in the CGI department you will have to use Photoshop, SketchUp, Cinema 4D, Blender, Arnolds and more. These allows you to create all different sort of things, from adding rain to a scene, to create a completely different universe. It was also very interesting to know what are the requirement they look for when hiring new people. What is needed is Drawing skills, Hand drafting, having a great portfolio, being able to use the Adobe package and being able to sell your ideas. I am more and more convinced that working for them would be a great start for my career and I would also have the chance to learn how to use in a professional ways all of those software mentioned before. For the summer I am challenging myself to follow LinkedIn Learning tutorials on how to use (as a beginner) Cinema 4D.
