Today, after having to present my idea to my classmates (for the Research Methods module), I decided to have a look at a LinkedIn Learning video about how to design a successful presentation. The idea of looking at this tutorial came a bit late, but after seeing all my classmates presentations it felt right to try to understand better how to design one. This will definitely be helpful for the future, whenever I will have to pitch my ideas to other designers or employers. This online class gave me some tips and insights that I believe are extremely valuable. For instance, the tutor stressed the importance of staying on focus on the main subject, trying not to diverge from it. To do so, it is important to always refer to bullet points in each one of the slides you design. Another extremely important aspect while designing a presentation is to bear in mind the overall look of it. The aesthetic of a presentation is crucial, especially if working in the design industry. However, the aesthetic should not dominate the presentation, instead, it should enhance it! Also, depending on the presentation you are working on, it is fundamental to insert effective pictures (and reference them correctly). Sometimes pictures are more effective than words, therefore it is very important to research the one that best back-up the speech you are giving. This course has been extremely helpful because it made me reflect on how important a presentation can be. It shows the viewer many aspects of your style as a designer, from its design to its content.
